Do we know what the foreign leader tried to acchieve with his correspondance? Meritaten was the eldest daughter so maybe he was trying to prepare a potential marriage-alliance?

It looked to me lik ...

Not very clear are they? So Mayati may have been the 'mistress of his house' and she got a small present to show Burnaburiash's displeasure. Sounds like Nefertiti is out of the picture though.

The current theory is that Mayati is indeed Meritaten. The fact that she is recieving presents from other monarchs suggest she was acting as First Lady of Egypt but she is not called Akhenaten's wife. ...

Sorry, it is just easier to believe that Hatshepsut had a coronation than that she didn't. You don't just turn up one day wearing the sacred crowns of a pharoah as if it ...

As I've said before I'd be very surprised - and dubious - if archaeological evidence of the Exodus was claimed. Wandering Beduin don't leave much of a footprint and the AEs certainly weren't going to ...

I don't know why you say that. How is it any more controversial than a lot of other evidence from ancient Egypt. Peter Piccione has demonstrated to my satisfaction that the name of Satiah, a wife of ...

Considering the way that was would that have been so bad?

Hat probably did naturally assume Neferure would marry Thutmose III and be Great Wife and God's Wife in her turn. There doesn't seem to b ...

looking at hatshepsut's remarkably good administration, i would not be surprised if her father thought she would be better than thutmose II. perhaps she was the one guiding him until he died. there se ...

I agree on the legitimizing texts are fictional, as I said IMO they indicate Hatshepsut's own discomfort with her assumption of Kingship rather than an attempt to convince the elite supporting her of ...

The problem is that sisters also share the same mtDNA and so do descendants of said sisters. Therefore all we can really claim is that KV60 (who may be Hat) was a female line relation to Ahmose Nefert ...

Hat started out as a standard regent yes, and as regent had herself depicted as standing behind Thutmose III like a proper queen. We can probably never know what led to her assuming the title of Phara ...

I very much doubt it. Hat seems to have been a stickler for propriety and precedent rather than a revolutionary, admittedly making her assumption of Pharaonic regalia that much more startling. However ...

We cannot however assume that the AEs would find Father-Daughter incest as shocking as we do. Ramesses' daughters seem to have been promoted to replace their mothers, Amenhotep III's apparent 'marriag ...

Moses did not have horns, that was a mistranslation of a phrase that should have been interpreted as shining with light (ie: his face reflected the glory of the Lord).

I don't recall if the Arsinoe claim was discussed here but it is clearly HIGHLY questionable. The girl is much younger than expected, her body shows no signs of violence AND she was buried in an expen ...
