LOL "Violently-happy?" Oh my, I have to wonder what that looks like. Shouting with glee as you lob mortar rounds through your windows? _________________

Violently-happy could get painful. Although I got a worried look from our posty lady when my copy of it arrived - I was whoopying and yippying. Is always so much fun getting parcels in the mail.
Yep I love my Murnane too and take copious amounts of scribbles that I grandly term 'my notes'. I appreciate the fact that he does'nt place his own opinion and just reports the texts. In that way it makes it a far more valuable resource than other books. _________________ Priestess of Hathor, Superior of the Harem of Min, dedicated to Maat, beloved of Seshat and Nekhbet.

No, that would be "destructively-happy"

LOL, don't feel bad. I get those kind of looks from people everywhere I go!

Yes it certainly does. I love when I get the opportunity to form my own opinions especially since I have so many of them!! All in all it is a great book. It is always good for multiple read-throughs. Each time you read it you may pick up on something you missed previously. I personally consider it as one of the greatest books of all time, but that is only my opinion! _________________ "You made heaven far away just to rise in it, to see all you make, Being unique and risen in your aspects of being as 'living Aten' manifest, shining, far yet near". |

You might!
I recently picked up Reeves' Ancient Egypt the Great Discoveries from my library and so far it is quite interesting. In my opinion the book has an excellent lay-out. _________________ "You made heaven far away just to rise in it, to see all you make, Being unique and risen in your aspects of being as 'living Aten' manifest, shining, far yet near". |

You're most welcome. I could go on suggesting more books but I'm sure neither of us has that much time. Well, all right, I do, but you probably have a life. _________________

Actually, I don't have a life either! So that means I have all the time in the world. Please keep the suggestions coming if you do not mind. _________________ "You made heaven far away just to rise in it, to see all you make, Being unique and risen in your aspects of being as 'living Aten' manifest, shining, far yet near". |

I am now reading "The twelfth transforming" about akenaten. It's pretty good...Sitamun just died in the last chapter...nefertiti hired someone to kill her....maybe it was the butler?! _________________ Cleopatra's Picture

LOL, not the butler again! Don't you just love how the book is written? With all of the descriptive wording it is so easy to come up with a mental picture of places and events in the story. _________________ "You made heaven far away just to rise in it, to see all you make, Being unique and risen in your aspects of being as 'living Aten' manifest, shining, far yet near". |

Yes, I do. But I must say, the whole idea of a son sleeping with his mother creeped me out...and yes, I know it was ancient egypt, but still...creepy ... _________________ Cleopatra's Picture

A great book, ImageOfAten. I read that one some time ago.
Besides Aldred's book on Akhenaten I'm also reading the latest work of fiction by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, called The Book of the Dead. I've only gotten to the point where they start exploring the old walled-off Tomb of Senef in the bowels of the museum, but so far it's a great read. You'd expect nothing less of Preston and Child--they're books never fail to entertain me. For those of you who don't know of them I'd recommend any and all of their books. And if you haven't read much fiction but enjoy horror movies and remember the film The Relic (1997), that was based on one of their books. Much of the film was shot in the Field Museum here in Chicago, and on occasion we still get people who ask if they can see the dark and creepy tunnels from the movie (they do in fact exist). _________________
