This reminds me-I remember there was a radio quiz and one of the questions was 'what percentage of Egypt is desert?'
Can you guess the answer? |

I meant: the only livable region in Egypt were the fertile banks of the Nile. If u'd measure length (North to South) and width (East to West) u'd have a surprisingly small surface. |
That's what I meant too with those geographical boundaries! |

That means only 10% of Egypt is habitable... |

So, more than 60%!
No, really I hadn't guessed it would be that much! Only 10% inhabitable, hail to the ancient Egyptians to establish such a fabulous civilization in such a barren region! Or, better, hail to Father Nile (and the work of the Egyptian farmers). |

But that was before the Egyptian Civilization developed.
I think we're talking about 10,000 years ago for that. _________________ Math and Art: http://mathematicsaroundus.blogspot.com/ |

That's why they depended on the floods of the nile, and they lived on it's banks, it was the only way to get water in a land where it hardly rains.
Mind you, I have heard of the 'wet period' but that was waaaaaay before Egyptian civilisation. Apparently, at that time, the Sahara was a savanna, not a desert, but some weird climatic change caused it to dry up and become desert, I think. |

OMG this thread has gone all over the show since yesterday!!
Mud wrestling....Robins gay green speedo's.... Questioning Thutmoses masculinity issues....and now a more staid comment on encroaching desert!
Actually back to Thutmose III, his mummy shows him to have been quite 'vertically challeged' as was Napoleon - reminds me of the 'unPC' saying regarding men of shorter stature... _________________ Priestess of Hathor, Superior of the Harem of Min, dedicated to Maat, beloved of Seshat and Nekhbet.

Stargate SG1 is gay...
The Scorpion, gay...
Loved both Mummy movies, however.
Indiana Jones was excellent.

Please accept my apologies for that last post. It most definately was not meant to offend. That term is commonly used where I am from. It means "lame." I won't use it again in this forum.
Those movies were lame. _________________ Omm Sety is my personal hero. She'll spill the beans to Osiris!!!
