I was wondering if anyone knows (or knows where I can find out) whether the Egyptian pyramids were built at a similar angle or if they differed vastly? I know that they came in various sizes, but that wouldn't necessarily effect how steep they were constructed, would it? I'm not speaking of Snefru's bent pyramid; which I believe started off with an angle just under 60 degrees or the Nubian pyramids that were even steeper; at around 70 degrees (I think), because they were a break from the norm, but generally speaking were the rest the same steepness? (Hmm. is steepness even a word, or did I just make that up?! Laughing ) If so, what angle was that??
Idea
Sorry if the question didn't make complete sense...any help is much appreciated, though. Wink

According to Miroslav Verner (in Pyramids) the angles vary a bit.

Snefru's pyramids
at Zawiyet el-Meiytitin: angle of inclination of core's shell - 80 degrees
In Sinki: angle of inclination of core's shell - 80 degrees
In Ombos: angle of inclination of core's shell - 80 degrees
In Kula and Edfu: angle of inclination of core's shell - 77 degrees

Snefru's bent pyramid at Dashur changes from 55 degrees to 43 degrees

All the pyramids at Giza are around 51-53 degrees. This includes the Queen's pyramids and cult pyramids.

By the time of Djedkare (end of the 5th dynasty) some of the pyramids get a bit steeper - but those are cult and Queen's pyramids. Some have angles of ca 62 degrees.
Djedkare: 52 degrees ; cult pyramid: 62 degrees
Unas: 56 degrees
Teti: 53 degrees ; cult pyramid: 63 degrees
Queen Iput: 63 degrees
Pepi I: 53 degrees
Pepi II: 53 degrees
Queen Neith: 61 degrees
Queen Iput II: 55 degrees

In the 12th dynasty they vary a bit:
Amenemhet I: 54 degrees
Senwosret I: 49 degrees
Amenemhet II: ?
Senwosret II: 42 degrees
Senwosret III: 56 degrees
Amenemhet III (Dashhur): 54 degrees
Amenemhet III (Hawara): 48 to 52 degrees

That's a very rough outline / summary Smile

Wow, thanks a lot, Anneke! Very Happy That's really helpful.

It would seem then, that it was only the Giza pyramids that kept to a similar formula regarding the angles. Smile That's really interesting. Razz
