According to some news outlet, a New kingdom temple was discovered in Sohag.

Quote:

Egypt Farmer Digs up Ancient Temple

El Cairo, Dec 4 (Prensa Latina) An Egyptian farmer found under his residence an over 3,000-year old temple with important inscriptions and drawings from that time, belonging to the New Kingdom (1539-1075 BC).

The site, in the locality of Sohag, 500 kilometers south of Cairo, was found six meters deep in a place where it is thought that there are other temples of pharaohs of the 18th and 19th centuries.

According to local Al Ahram daily, on the walls are written names of kings, inscriptions and drawings.

Laughing Ah, so when it isn't tomb robbers discovering ancient Egyptian sites, it's the local farmer!

It's a shame that it doesn't say anything about the inscriptions that they found or which rulers are mentioned, though.

Maybe they'll say more once it's been better looked at. Confused

The last sentence of this story is:

Quote:
Archeologists continue with excavations to find new buildings devoted to divinities Anoris and Miht of the New Kingdom.

I wonder, do they mean Onuris (Anhur) and Mehit or Mekhyt? They figure in some versions of The Distant Goddess/Wandering Eye myths. He's a hunter who brings Her back; She's a lioness-headed goddess BTW.

On the EEF list it was just mentioned that the gods mentioned are Onuris and Mehit.

I didn't know they were worshipped there. Sohag is near Akhmin isn't it? So two religious centers rather close together there?

Which "locality of Sohag" is that? Is it the city or the province? Because both the ancient Akhmim and Abydos are placed in the province of Sohag or Suhaj.
