Yeah it's really hard to find books about AE that are easy to understand but still packed with reliable information.

I would reccomend "Reference Classics Ancient Egypt General Editor David P.Silverman" it's full of detailed information written in a really easy way to read and understand.

I have the revised edition....it says somewhere on the inside of the back/front cover there is a copy in the british national library or some well known library in britain, perhaps you should go and see if they have a copy you could hire?

I find librarys have a good selection of AE books, and the best part is you can hire them for free/small membership fee and don't spend heaps of money like you would if you brought them.

Most of the books I have are gifts for Christmases and birthdays. Some of them are Budge and I know he's frowned upon, but at least my books have pretty pictures. (Pretty pictures are always good!) My mum's friend went to Egypt and got the most amazing 'coffee table' Egypt book with some huge, stunning photos in there of the sites and treasures of Egypt-not much in the way of writing but for pretty pics it's fantastic.

I need a job...to buy decent books and to fund my trip to Egypt of course Very Happy

I'm guilty of the same thing. Every now and then it's just fun to buy a book loaded with lots of pretty pictures. Very Happy

On the subject of the capstone, I still think it's a singularly bad idea. There's no historical need for or relevance to it whatsoever. As the chief marketer of his country Hawass's heart is in the right place (for the idea is little more than another tourist draw), but to me it almost smacks of commercialism.

Are you referring to the modern capstone 'reconstruction' discussed in another thread? Surely you're not referring to the ancient capstone as a bad idea?
Personally, I think the AE capstone (in AE times-if it existed) was a great idea but the modern one...if ZH really wants his golden capstone, why doesn't he build his own pyramid for it (I'm surprised he hasn't thought of that already! Wink )

Yes, I was referring to Zahi's latest marketing idea. I was just tossing in a random comment, so feel free to disregard it if you want. Razz

I just noticed the asterisks (***) in my last post. What I typed wasn't a bad word--it was just "commercial-i-s-m." Well, I guess to some people "commercial-i-s-m" is a bad word.

And here was me thinking the *** was something ruder! I never thought of commercial-i-s-m as being something to bleep out...it reminds me of the 'K-u-s-h-i-t-e' thing but I can't find any swear words within commercial-i-s-m? Idea

The "K-u-s-h-i-t-e" thing was because of the filters Kevin was using to combat spamming. He fixed that: Kushite. See? Very Happy

But your mention of that makes me think the same may be true with "commercial-i-s-m" as well. Now, I rarely have cause to type "commercial-i-s-m" so I don't much care.

Kushite. Kushite. Kushite.

Yep, still works. That one's more important. Wink

Kushite.
