The goddess Serqet is usually represented as a woman wearing a scorpion-like animal on her head. Contrary, however, to popular beliefs, she was originally associated with the so-called water-scorpion, an aquatic animal that physically resembles but bears no relation to the real scorpion. Only through a (graphical) assimilation between the water-scorpion and the real scorpion in the 19th Dynasty, she would become associated with the real scorpion.

I have always had an interest in Selqet ever since i saw a picture of her from the tomb of Tutankhamun from the canopic shrine-she looks so beautiful rendered in the amarna style with the scorpion atop her head and the pose she is standing in is so exoticly egyptian and inspiring.

I was just reading that tour egypt article and was amazed that this goddess who i had been interested in was actually first associated with the water scorpion and then later the land scorpion-such rich and deep meanings is why i find AE so fascinating! This has just intrigued me even more!
Up until the 19th dynasty she was still being associated with the water scorpion-So does that mean in the time of tut she was still being associated with the water scorpion?

Here is an article on her with a beautiful picture of the statue i was talking about-the statue is wood covered in gold and the only paint used it that to highlight and define the eyes-the rest has been delicately worked in the gold to give her all the detail such as the dress pleats or detail of her necklace-amazing craftmenship-it almost seems beyond the realm of human possibility.

Serqet (Serket, Selqet, Selket, Selkit, Selkis)-it's annoying how many different names people/gods from AE have-very confusing!

There was a (short) discussion about Serqet here:
http://forum.egyptiandreams.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=1827

We also had a discussion about the "conjurer of Serket" a while ago:
http://forum.egyptiandreams.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=1513

These men were doctors and magicians.

I just realised i also really like the Aten because it is both male and female-and for me this makes perfect sense if it is going to be the creator-i don't buy much into these religions with creators that are solely male or female because you need both to create life and thus this makes the Aten even more compelling in my opinion.

My favourite is Sekhmet,I dunno,I always think she was my mother,or,I'm just going weird.

Also Anubis,he is my best of friend ever.He always keep guarding me.Anubis is very important to me,I dunno what to do if I lost him.The night that I met him, thats it! I started to feel very close to him.Even tho I can't see him, but,I can sense him everytime he is with me.If I was sad.His always there for me.

Sekhmet all the way! I wish I could choose both Hathor and Sekhmet though. Two sides of the same coin there!

Being an aging ex-punk, I would have liked to vote for Nun.

Still, as this was not possible I went for the Aten on the basis that he once went some way towards creating a state of anarchy.

I don't know if I have a favourite but I enjoy looking up and reading about some of the lesser dieties such as Hu, Sia and nefertem.

My favourite god is Anubis.

I have statues of him at home, a tattoo on my hip and I'm just completely fascinated with him.

I even found some wine that is called Anubis, how cool is that.

Very Happy

Anubis wine? I'm hardly a connoisseur but I've never heard of it.

Does it give you dog breath? Laughing

Anubis is my favorite Egyptian deity, too.
