I recently purchased the History Channel four-episode DVD set Egypt: Beyond The Pyramids and yesterday I watched the episode on Ramesses II. This one features a lot of information about KV5 and includes terrific footage of the tomb up till that point in the excavation (around 2001).

All four of the episodes are very interesting, but keeping it germane to our discussion, the episode with KV5 was honestly my favorite. As I watched the DVD I kept Weeks's The Lost Tomb in my lap and opened to the page showing the illustration of the tomb with all of the chambers and corridors numbered. LOL It was quite a convenient memory aid.

Let me tell you, as good a writer as Weeks is, his book just doesn't convey the colossal amount of work and effort he and his team faced in clearing so much of KV5. The DVD offers vivid images of the vast amounts of fill the excavators had to remove. It also highlights many of the chambers and features Weeks details in his book.

I recommend this DVD set to all of you folks. It's very nicely done. And best of all, Zahi Hawass takes center stage only once in all four DVDs and for not very long at that. It was refreshing! Razz

LOL

I know this is a bit out of topic but it saves making a new topic:

I remember reading somewhere that the walls were painted originally but the water washed them away. Is this true, and is it mentioned in the Lost tomb book?

Yes, Weeks describes it in some detail. I've sort of lost track of this discussion because I've been so busy lately and I don't want to spoil the discussions of future chapters, but a lot of the wall decoration was carved and then plastered to the stone surfaces, and so the floodwaters simply washed it away.
