hi, do people know anything about the 26th dynasty royal tombs of sais? or the 29th dynasty ones in mendes? i know the 25th dynasty are in nuri.and the 21 and 22nd dynasties are in tanis and thebes. where are the 23rd and 4th dynasties? the 27th and 30th dynasties are persian, and amyrtaos was saite. the ptolemies are missing, and most pther pharoahs are in pyramids, valley of the kings, amarna, and the tarif in thebes.

I dont know what part of vic you live but i would recomend the NGV for Egyptian objects. You can view them on my website for a little "Preview" if you want.

The only thing I was able to find on short notice is that they were described by Herodotus and that the tomb were apparently on the grounds of a temple complex?

I will have to look around a bit more. I cannot find anything right now about possible excavations at Sais. I would guess someone must have excavated / studied these royal tombs?

there was an excavation done around 1900 i think it was, but the people didn't get very far because of snakes or a swamp that had to be drained. they abandoned the project.

Yes, Sais is supposedly heavily waterlogged isn't it?

Yes, in the later periods the tombs of royals become more elusive. Herodotus may actually be correct about the burials in temple complexes, if traditions followed the Tanite example. I've read quite a bit about tombs from the Late Period, but offhand I can't recall significant details on royal tombs.

I actually have a lot of pictures from inside of the Tanis royal tombs. They were really, really cool. One of these days I'll throw them up on flickr.
