I went to Egypt for the first time in October. I chose a trip that took me to Amarna because it's been my dream to go there ever since I became interested in Egypt. An Egyptologist accompanied the group and we went to three or four tombs. I asked about Akhenaton's tomb and was told it was too unsafe for tourists. This was the first I'd heard about it.
Are the royal tombs really unsafe or have others here been there? I was disappointed not to see them. |

First : You should change the "Egyptologist" ...
Second : Probably also your travel agency.
Third : When I was in Amarna in November 2004 I could visit every tomb I wanted to see, including the royal tomb. Friends of mine have been there some weeks ago. They also had the opportunity to visit every tomb they wanted to see ...
Greetings, Lutz. |

Sadly, the majority of the Egyptologists hired to guide us were really poor.
My sister and I are already planning to return in the near future. Hopefully we'll be able to see the tombs then.
So what was it like standing in Akhenaton's tomb? |

I went to Amarna last November. We had a guided tour of Amarna with Barry Kemp. Standing in Akhenaten's tomb was really quite special. _________________ Do not shorten the time devoted to pleasure,
