Incidentally, the pricing on the web page is out of date.
We revisited the Asasif tombs, Kheruef and Ankhhor, this morning and the ticket price is now LE30 |

LE30 would equate to around 5.00 USD wouldn't it? _________________ “To be satisfied with a little, is the greatest wisdom; and he that increaseth his riches, increaseth his cares; but a contented mind is a hidden treasure, and trouble findeth it not.”

Uhm, Hekat; what do they expect in this set up, that there is a "Brinks armored car" behind each tourist? I have a suggestion for the SCA: " If you really want to get rid of tourism in your country. Use these prices, and you will see the number of visitors decrease dramatically!"
Thank the gods, Neseret, came with more sane prices _________________

The page Neseret linked to is for the OPEN sites.
Hekat's link is for the CLOSED sites which are only available with special SCA permisions at those prices. |

What type of criteria besides having that kind of money would you need to see those closed sites? _________________ “To be satisfied with a little, is the greatest wisdom; and he that increaseth his riches, increaseth his cares; but a contented mind is a hidden treasure, and trouble findeth it not.”

I don't think there are any other criteria apart from the money. You would have to have a genuine interest to spend that much really wouldn't you? _________________ http://picasaweb.google.com/112743752796606929007 |

Well, such high fees cause research by scholars to basically stop, IMO. I gather that if you are someone who has to study any of the closed monuments, you will either a) have to pay the fee or b) get a special dispensation from the SCA to visit a closed monument. That's what I have been told.
Beyond that, any tourist will just have to pony up the funds to see a closed site (each of the high fees is per person I understand). Then it becomes a matter of money over any interest.
Many of these closed tombs need extensive restoration just to accommodate visitors. It was estimated over 10 years ago that the tomb of Seti I (KV 17) would need over $15 million worth of restoration and as such, would likely never be open to the public again. _________________ Katherine Griffis-Greenberg

And they thought they'd be (bathing in money) just by demanding such high fees? I still believe this will backfire. Just my

I believe the fees are for any number between 1 & 10 & 11 & 20. I know a friend had a chance to go along to "make up the numbers", obviously it is cheaper per head split between 10 than 8 or 9.
Neseret as you say you can apply direct to the SCA if your interest is for study purposes. Somebody we know from Swansea Uni got in to one of the closed Nobles tombs via that route. If you want more info please PM me I'm sure he would be happy to help. _________________ http://picasaweb.google.com/112743752796606929007 |
