I don't usually read tabloids but in the Sun newspaper today, there was a story that caught my eye...I don't remember the exact details, but a group of archeologists were moving some Sekmet statues to Liverpool and to get them in the museum, they had to park on yellow lines, and that meant the evil traffic wardens got them and gave the truck carrying Sekhmet a parking ticket! Laughing Now if I was Sekhmet, I would have bitten the traffic warden's heads off in one fell swoop... Laughing

I wonder if their report will be followed by one of "The Curse of Sekhmet".

" Warden has been cursed! Suffered from a broken leg, and has been hissed at by every cat in the neighborhood. A trip to the Zoo became a complete nightmare once the Lions attempted to drag the poor soul through the bars of the cage."

You think I could become a writer for one of these "rags"? Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Hymn to Sekhmet Very Happy

The One Who Holds Back Darkness

Mother of the gods, the One, the Only,
  Mistress of the Crowns, thou rulest all;
Sekhmet is thy name when thou are wrathful,
Bast, beloved, when thy people call.
Daughter of the sun, with flame and fury
  Flashing from the prow upon the foe;
Safely sails the boat with thy protection
Passing scatheless where thy fires glow.
Daughter of the Sun, the burial chamber
Lies in the darkness til thy light appears.
From thy Throne of Silence send us comfort,
Bast, beloved, banish all our fears.
Mother of the gods, no gods existed
Til thou camest there and gace them life.
Sekhmet of the boat, the wicked fear thee
Trampling down all evil and all strife.
Mother of the gods, the great, the loved one,
Winged and mighty, unto thee we call,
Naming thee the Comforter, the Ruler
Bast, beloved, Mother of us all.

-- Hymn to Sekhmet-Bast from the Egyptian Book of the Dead.

As the "punishing goddess", it should be said that given the fact that I couldn't carry a tune if my life depended on it, me singing would be punishment indeed......

On my more modest days I guess I would sing this:

Sekhmet
Greater than Isis.
Sekhmet, Greater than Hathor.
Sekhmet, Greater than Bast.
Sekhmet, Greater than Maat.
Sekhmet, Mysterious Is Thy Name!
I am lost in mystery!
Sekhmet, Pre-eminent One.
Sekhmet, Light beyond Darkness.
Sekhmet, Sovereign of Her Father.
Sekhmet, Hidden is Thy Name!
Rapturous my dying!
Lady of Amt, Lady of Manu,
Lady of Sa, Lady of Tep-nef,
Lady of Heaven!
Thou art Ammi-seshet,
Destroyer, Upholder!
Thou art the Terror
Before Which fiends tremble!
Thou art Lust! Thou art Life!
Ever-Burning ONE,
Tekaharesa-Pusaremkakaremet,
Sefi-per-em-Hes-Hra-Hapu-Tchet-f,
Mistress of Enchantments,
Source and Word of Power.
Forbidden Is Thy Name!
I am the sealed one!
Do not consume us With Thy Fire -
Give us Light!
O Lady, Mightier than the Gods,
Adoration rises unto Thee!
All beings hail Thee!
O Lady, Mightier than the Gods!
Preserved beyond Death
That Secret Name,
O Being Called Sekhmet.
At the Throne of Silence even,
shall no more be spoken than Encircling One!
I lose myself in Thee!

I tried to stay focused, but my mind drifted off. Started thinking of the pancakes of my former girlfriend. She made very yummy ones actually. Once she tossed one of them - in an attempt to look like she actually knew what she was doing - in the air, but it kinda got stuck to the ceiling. Pretty funny sight. It's a long road from your message but I remembered since we saw "Trainspotting" around that time. You reminded me of Iggy Pop. Smile

I just KNEW that you would comment on the "lust" part. Almost PMed Sesen to corroborate my prediction, but didn't in the end...

Iggy Pop? Such a lovely image Confused
Do really like his song "Lust for Life" though.

The hymns evoke memories of pancakes and ex-girlfriends? Wonder what Freud would make out of that?

Not much I guess.
He's dead for quite some time now.
