does anyone know if there is a download [legal of course] or other recording of the documentary made at the time of the original Tutakhamun exhibition in London? It was screened on BBC3/4 a little while back but was not well publicised so by the time I realised it was on and slammed in a tape it was too late to get it all and the tape I grabbed was a really poor one so the recording was complete rubbish. It does not seem to have been repeated since and it isn't on iplayer or anything of that sort.

Any ideas anyone?

Have you had a look on the BBC's iplayer?

That was my first thought too but it seems they only offer them for a week - if it was ever on iplayer it is now long gone. Shame really what I saw of it on the manky tape I got looked gorgeous. Done in classic BBC 70s style with everyone sounding like Celia Johnson in Brief Encounter but still interesting

Unfortunately not - I only realised it was on when I turned on the box and it was already started. By the time I found time to watch it and realised that the tape was rubbish, the TV guide had long gone and I couldn't be sure of the title

The only thing I'm certain of is that it was the documentary broadcast at the time of the original exhibition in London back in the 70s. It was little more than an advert for the exhibition tbh, but what little I was able to see was fascinating and bearing in mind my interest at the time I would have liked to see it through fully.

Perhaps they will rescreen it at a later date. We live in hope

See Recreating the sound of Tutankhamun's trumpets

There's a BBC IPlayer version of the playing of the trumpet which is still working, by bandsman James Tappern, from 1939. The sound file lasts 3 minutes, 15 seconds (it is not downloadable).
