Try this : LATE PREDYNASTIC AND EARLY DYNASTIC EGYPT by FRANCESCO RAFFAELE. Also with extensive bibliografi references to the resuming literature.

Not as good as the one Lutz mentions:
http://euler.slu.edu/~bart/egyptianhtml/tombs/Abydos.html
(And I only say that because it's mine, so I can criticize Very Happy )

But there are some links there to pages from digitalegypt, the website associated to Univ College, London

And here still a few books to the topic :

Aidan Dodson / Salima Ikram : The tomb in ancient Egypt - Royal and private sepulchres from the early dynastic period to the Romans. - London : Thames & Hudson, 2008. - ISBN : 978-0-500-05139-9 ; 0-500-05139-9. - 368 p.

Technically well-founded, with extensive bibliography. Second-hand starting from 20,- (+ dispatch) available. An acquisition really which can be recommended.

A short and compactly introduction is :

Barbara Adams / Krzysztof M. Cialowicz : Protodynastic Egypt. - Princess Risborough : Shire Publications, 1997. - Shire Egyptology - 25. - ISBN : 0-7478-0357-9. - 72 p.

Second-hand starting from 4,- (+ dispatch) available.

Greetings, Lutz.
