I'm going to be in Luxor in the new year and trying to get some sort of itinerary worked out so as to get in as much as possible in the time I have.

Having looked at the reports by Waseda University on their excavations at Malqata I was wondering if it is worth visiting. From what I can gather the site was not that well preserved but does anyone know if any work has been done to show off what was found, or is it just a few mounds and so on?

Thanks.

I had not been aware of the new survey. It makes interesting reading although a little brief. I see that it is hoped to prepare the site for opening to the public, but not yet.

Thinking about things I feel that Malqata can now be left off my list until a later date.

Thanks again.

The Malkata palace site has not seen any work on it for a good few years. However, the imalkata web site describes the work being carried out on the Temple and residential area to the west of the palace location. The team may well be back on site early in 2012 depending on the political and SCA situation.
The whole site was in mudbrick so essentially there are only remains standing to around 60cms or so.
