There is a beautiful statue of Aspelta at the BMFA. Here's a picture from Wikimedia Commons
The description mentioned that the rough areas you see on the statue were once covered in gold.So the crown, bracelets, and kilt were all gold. That must have been quite a sight! I wonder in what space this was originally meant to be displayed? It came from the Great Temple of Amen at Gebel Barkal. If it would have been displayed in a dim room but with maybe torch light reflecting off the gold?

Wow, I didn't know they used gold on their statues. The sculpted rock seems impressive enough. It is quite the work of art. It never ceases to amaze me how the Egyptians can still to this day inspire through their enduring culture. |
