This website is very interesting (and well written):
http://emhotep.net/
There are stories about the robot crawlers exploring the shafts in the pyramid (and the findings)
There are interviews with Jean Pierre Houdin.
And much more! Great photographs accompany the articles. _________________ Math and Art: http://mathematicsaroundus.blogspot.com/ |

Again, anneke, you have pointed me to a most informative and interesting site. Many thanks.
Just to get things clear in my mind, am I right in thinking that ALL photography is banned in the Valley of the Kings? Outside as well as inside the tombs?
If so this is news to me and threatens to put a damper on my plans for my visit. I had hoped to get some photos from the hill path going to Deir el Medina, via the top of the cliff overlooking Deir el Bahri. If such a general ban is in place this will mean that I will not be able to record the sights on the walk. This would be a great disappointment as I find that such trips only become "real" in photographs, being too busy at the time to take everything in as I would wish.
A ban on external photography was certainly not in place three years ago when I last visited the Valley, any idea why they have imposed the ban? It certainly does not seem to be very tourist friendly. I still recall the howls of anguish when people with video cameras where told that they had to leave them at the little kiosk as video recording was not permitted. The authorities had no real explanation for the ban then I wonder if they do now. Surely, the old standby of "security" can't be trotted out. Maybe they have done this because they can. Who knows? |
