Forbidden word???

I wrote a response to a thread in the religion section and it said my post was blocked due to a usage of a forbidden word?

The only possible offensive word I could have used is "Jews" and I edited all of it out and it still said usage blocked due to forbidden word. I clicked on 'go to groups page to bypass" etc and it says page does not exist.

For clarification, the word Jews was used because I was talking about Akhenaten and the hebrew language, nothing to do with insults.

What do I do?

I think this may be a glitch in the system due to the spam filters the owner - Kevin - had to install.
You can PM Kevin directly or PM one of the moderators to see if they can post it for you.

It won't have been the word Jews - that is not blocked. What it might have been is a normal innocent word which contains a banned word within it. Was it also your first post? Any banned word within a first post is blocked to prevent spambots. Now you have posted a few times try again - the offending word will show as *** and I can investigate.

That's helpful as it explains why I was having trouble during log on. My email address is a banned word. KV64 and info are both allowed but if I put a dot between them to make the URL for my email address, that's banned. Why it's banned though is something of a mystery?

It is banned because so many spammers use a (dot)info web address for their junk. It is easier to ban the lot than manually look out for them.

As I was working on my henna post I came to the forbidden word thing and I found out the word was
khem
tic

Why is that word banned if I may ask?

It's not banned as such. The word khemt is checked and anything added to it or before it is removed, in your example "khemtic" loses the "ic". I think we may have had somebody spamming links once with khemt in all the links. So to stop them I added the above filter. I've removed it now so it should be ok Smile

I'm having the exact same issue at the moment. I hope posting under this thread will allow me to post my original post.

Click on my email link and send me the post. I'll see if I can find the word causing the problem.

Sorry to kick-start this thread again but I had an instance with a "forbidden word", it was when I was trying to put a drawing of Sobek in my sig which I liked and apparently the URL (the only explanation) contained a forbidden word and it directed me to "groups" or something.

Could someone please explain

Email me what you were trying to post and I'll check.

And resize or remove your signature graphic. It is far too large.

UPDATE: I've sorted it out now, thanks anyway.

Will this size suffice?

I tried posting a topic addressing popular misconceptions about afr*centric scholarship. But I am guessing Afr*centric is a forbidden word given its controversy? I had as an intro to my post a plea for a respectful conversation, not an argument. I was not trying to make an argument for it or even against traditional Egyptology. Just describing the field itself, and the scholarship behind it. So... That's not ok to post?

Really? You have to ask, given you've realised why the post wasn't accepted? Your very first post? NO it's not ok. Thank you and goodbye.
