Yes, but at the moment I would not go there alone / individually because of the security situation in Middle Egypt.

THE AMARNA PROJECT : LOCATION - REGIONAL SETTING - GETTING THERE - ONCE YOU ARE THERE

Greetings, Lutz.

I would agree with Lutz on this one: Amarna is quite isolated, and with the present political situation, you likely would need to be in a large group and perhaps even with a police convoy (sometimes if things get dicey in the area, even non-convoyed areas (like Abydos) get police convoys). You probably won't, if you can get there, be allowed to stay more than 2 hours, perhaps even less, which is (of course) not enough time to see much of anything.

In general, the Egyptian Tourist section of the government, which provides Tourism police, police convoys, etc, are not all that happy with individual travellers. You often have to provide full and detailed information about why you want to go to a specific area (in my case, being a doctoral research student can help, but it's not a guarantee).

If you are denied in reaching certain sections of the country, remember that they are actually forbidding you for your own protection, because there would be real hell to pay if the Tourist Police had another Hatshepsut situation on their hands - particularly at this time, when the economy is so bad for regular Egyptians. They NEED the tourism.

However, they also need to be able to assure your safety, and at the moment, these enforcement resources are spread VERY thin. So, you may find they see it easier to say, 'no,' when they would actually love to take you everywhere.

HTH.
