I can't find anything that discusses the seventh dynasty seriously. Some books, like the Oxford History of Ancient Egypt, actually dodge the topic. I read somewhere that it might have been fictitious everywhere but in Manetho's mind. Any thoughts?

Gary Greenberg : Manetho's 7th and 8th Dynasties - A Puzzle Solved. - In: Papers Presented in Honour of Geoffrey E. Freeman - The Journal of the Society for the Study of Egyptian Antiquities - JSSEA [The SSEA Journal] - 25 (1995). - Mississanya, Ont. : Benben, 1998. - ISSN : 0383-9753. - pp. 50 - 55.

Kim Ryholt : The Late Old Kingdom in the Turin King-list and the Identity of Nitocris. - In: Zeitschrift für Ägyptische Sprache und Altertumskunde - ZÄS 127. - Berlin : Akademie-Verlag, 2000. - ISSN : 0044-216X. - pp. 87 - 100.

Jürgen von Beckerath : Chronologie des Pharaonischen Ägypten - Die Zeitbestimmung der Ägyptischen Geschichte von der Vorzeit bis 332 v. Chr.. - [Münchner Ägyptologische Studien - MÄS 46]. - Mainz : von Zabern, 1997. - ISBN : 3-8053-2310-7. - XIX, 244 p.

On page 143 Beckerath assumes an error of the copyist Africanus. From the mention of an interregium by Manetho after the 6. ("70 kings in 70 days"), Africanus made a 7. Dynasty.

Greetings, Lutz.

How was to be expected (Egyptology ... Rolling Eyes ), there are obviously contrary opinions on the subject. Some footnotes, randomly found in ...

Laila M. Azzam : An unpublished boatmen fighting scene from the eighth dynasty. - In: Göttinger Miszellen - Beiträge zur Ägyptologischen Diskussion - GM 214. - 2007. - ISSN : 0344-385X. - pp. 11 - 27, from page 11:

Greetings, Lutz.

It's interesting to consider that the 7th and 8th dynasties might have been interpretations of Africanus and Eusebius, and not that of Manetho.
I appreciate your references, thanks for the response
