"In the Light of Amarna - 100 years of the discovery of the Nefertiti discovery"

Published by Michael Imhof Verlag for the Agyptisches Museum und Papyrussammlung, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin.

This edition in English and has chapters by various authors covering different aspects of Amarna and the discovery and cultural history of the Nefertiti bust. Some well known, such as Barry Kemp, Jan Assman and Salima Ikram, others will be more familar to a German audience.

There is no information about the Amarna period that is not already known to members of this forum, though it does provide a good overview of all the various aspects in one book. However, it is fascinating for the deatails of the discovery of the bust and it's consequent history and cultural impact. Except for the bare bones of the discovery by Ludwig Borchardt, most of the cultural aspects were completely unknown to me. I would suggest that for those of us who are not Egyptologists, and no matter what our level of Amarna knowledge is, and maybe those who are, this is a book well worth a look, and is very well illustrated with reconstructions of Amarna as well as super photos of the bust itself and other Amarna art.

Thanks for bringing this book to our attention. It is available at amazon.com:

http://www.amazon.com/Light-Amarna-Years-Nefertiti-Discovery/dp/3865688489/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1384204176&sr=1-1&keywords=In+the+Light+of+Amarna+-+100+years+of+the+discovery+of+the+Nefertiti+discovery

The one book review is interesting, but points out that the book was rushed to market with subsequent typos, mistranslation, etc.

Will there be another edition of the book with the corrections made. I'd like to have the book, but would prefer one with the errors corrected.

I've checked with my local library and so far, the book has not been ordered.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, I agree it needs to have been better proofed, the main error being that the book is full of "und" instead of "and", though that's not really a problem as it "scans" the same. I would not hold back in the hope of a better proofed edition, as this is a specialist publication so it may be the only edition.

I would also suggest that the Amazon reviewer is rather pedantic, particulary when they use a phrase like this "There are typos and infelicities in the translations from the German". And I had no problem identifying text with photos.
