Here is an interesting piece about a different item--the alabaster sarcophagus of Seti I.

Every source I have here, including Nicholas Reeves, says the same thing--coffin original to Seti I, gold scraped off, face modified. ...

The missing vulture goddess speaks in my view clear against. Before and after Akhenaton she was present on the equipment for a king, as shown by the archaeological findings from the Valley.

Possible would be a queens coffin from the time of Amenhotep III? I've seen the coffin several times in Cairo, so I can not quite understand where the statement regarding formerly existing gilding comes. If there once was any, one could only with the most modern methods to prove yet (under the now existing stucco layer).

Greetings, Lutz.

There once was planned a complete new publication of this wonderful object some years ago. I had already ordered a copy online, but unfortunately it has never been released. There are only the older publications by...

Samuel Sharpe & Joseph Bonomi : The Alabaster Sarcophagus of Oimenepthah I., King of Egypt - Now in the Sir John Soane`s Museum, Lincoln's Inn Fields (1864)

and the one from...

Earnest E. A. Wallis Budge : An Account of the Sarcophagus of Seti I, King of Egypt, B.C. 1370. - London : Sir John Soane’s Museum, 1908.

Greetings, Lutz.
