Hi, im doing work on offerings and i was wondering whether anyone knows of a detailed book or article (except Taylor's Death and the Afterlife) that talks about offering tables in tombs and whether the living actually read or spoke things whilst they were putting the offerings on the table.

Thanks a bunch,
Bean

There is an abstract by Regina Hölzl of their work from 2002, given on the First International Conference for Young Egyptologists in 2003 : Libation basins from the Old to the New Kingdom - Practical use and religious significance. - Rom : L'Erma di Bretschneider, 2005. - ISBN : 88-8265-307-2. - L'acqua nell'Antico Egitto - Vita, rigenerazione, incantesimo, medicamento - Proceedings of the First International Conference for Young Egyptologists, Italy, Chainciano Terme, October 15 - 18, 2003 - Egitto antico - 3 - Atti - 1. - pp. 309 - 317.

Furthermore, there are countless works on certain individual items, such as these...

Aisha M. Abdalaal : A Late Middle Kingdom offering table, Cairo Temp. No. 25.10.17.1. - Berlin ; New York : de Gruyter, 2006. - ISBN : 978-3-11-019131-8. - ISSN : 0342-1279. - Mitteilungen des Deutschen Archäologischen Instituts, Abteilung Kairo - MDAIK 62. - pp. 1 - 6.

Greetings, Lutz.

The most up to date publication about this scenes is from Dr. Eva Lange. She is working since 2000 in the excavation - team "Tell Basta-Project" and is since 2008 the boss of this German - Egyptian mission. Her Phil.Diss. is online available...

Ritualepisoden - Das Sedfesttor Osorkons II. in Bubastis. - Leipzig : Universität, Fakultät für Geschichte, Kunst- und Orientwissenschaften, 2008. - 635 p.

Maybe also of interest is...

Porter / Moss : The Topographical Bibliography of Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphic Texts, Statues, Reliefs and Paintings - IV. Lower and Middle Egypt, Delta and Cairo to Asyut. - Oxford : Clarendon Press [Re-issued by the Griffith Institute], 1934 [1968]. - 319 p. Tell Basta (Bubastis) is starting on page 13.

The dig - team from Potsdam University also re-issued in a 3 vol. source collection the most important publications of earlier works in Tell Basta, starting from 1882. They are, together with reports from the work of the German team, online available : =opus_instancename%3A%22ubp%22&start=0]"Baset - Bubastis - Tell Basta : eine Quellensammlung" .

Greetings, Lutz.
