" A Sip of History : Ancient Egyptian Beer " (The British Museum Blog - Tasha Marks, 25.03.2018)
Quote:
Beer was a result of the Agricultural Revolution (c. 10,000 BC), as fermentation was an accidental by-product of the gathering of wild grain. It’s said that beer was not invented but discovered, yet the manufacturing of beer was an active choice and the ancient Egyptians produced and consumed it in huge volumes. ...

... I expected a thick, tasteless, gruel-like mixture that was mildly alcoholic. But the brewers on the team thought otherwise – quite rightly they argued there was no way the Egyptians would be making beer in such quantities if it was not good. But to all of our surprise, it didn’t just work, but it was absolutely delicious! ...

With a 14 min video.

Greetings, Lutz.

People knew how to enjoy themselves back then as well. At least those who could afford this kind of stuff. Fascinating video.

Thanks for sharing. I tried making a batch of "Egyptian" beer with coriander seeds last year using modern brewing equipment. The fresh beer was quite tasty but ended up sour after a couple of days in the bottles.

Beer was a basic food and was freshly produced constantly. The Egyptian beer did not hold itself and had to be drunk immediately. For example, therefore it was very seldom or not at all a tomb good. Rather the raw materials for the production were given to the deceased into his tomb (after Wolfgang Helck : Das Bier im Alten Ägypten. - Berlin : Gesellschaft für die Geschichte und Bibliographie des Brauwesens E. V., 1971. - 120 p. - page 23).

Greetings, Lutz.
