That's right...teddy bears and ice cream, snuggles and hugs, leather and a little light whipping with a royal Egyptian flail.
I love the feel of gold against my skin. _________________

Errr, that's about as detailed as I had hoped to get. I'm too bashful to go further. _________________

I guess this would go here, I don't know. It's kind of like a dream I guess.
Anyways I was just wondering if any of you have experienced episodes of sleep paralysis. I've been having them for years and I've never talked to anyone who has them, well not as vividly as mine. _________________

I'm not even sure what sleep paralysis is. I guess that means I've never experienced it. _________________

Sleep paralyisis happens when you are..can you guess? yes, sleeping, well kind of, it's like when you are coming awake, so you're half and half, but you're concious but you can't move, you're sweating, you're terrified, your heart is beating out of your chest, you can't breath, and you start to see things, not in your head like a dream but actually in your room or wherever you are, they are there, you try to call out for help but you don't make a sound.
My scariest experience was I opened my eyes and I saw thousands of centipedes crawling out of my closet and then I saw a very ugly demon crouching on my chest and there was an old ugly woman wearing a black cloak standing over me, I tried to call for help, but it didn't work and I couldn't breath and oh my goodness I was scared!!
It's like watching your night-mare happening right in front of your eyes and there's nothing you can do about it. _________________

From your description this sounds kind of like night terrors, a step or two (or three) up from nightmares. I haven't experienced night terrors before, either. The physiological signs are the same, as are the visual signs, though I don't know about the paralysis part. _________________

After I experienced the night-terror I described, I read on the internet that many people for hundreds of years have had the same hilucinations (I don't know how to spell it) The whole creature on the chest thing is apparently called the incubus or something and the old woman is called the Old Hag syndrome. I'M GONNA TURN INTO AN OLD HAG!! just kidding.
But, it's so weird that so many people experience the same thing, though, eh? _________________

Did the old hag have green skin and a really long nose and a pointy hat and say to you, "I'll get you, my pretty, and you're little dog, too!"
Sorry, couldn't resist. She just popped into my head.
Guess I'm going to turn into an old hag myself. _________________

Yeah! How did you know? And then when I threw water on her she started screaming "I'm melting, melting....melting!"
Funny, that movie was just a dream too. _________________

Wow, I didn't even think of that. So maybe you were dreaming of a dream dreamt by a hag dreaming she was sitting on your chest.
If I only had a brain... _________________

You know what's really funny, I was just picturing you as the scare-crow before I read that. Don't ask me why, I'm quite strange. _________________

Poor man will be in therapy for some months after reading that
I have once had a night terror, but no hags or demons in my room.
More of a Merlin type figure..
Did grow up having anxiety attacks. Usually woke me up
Can they help people with this type of sleeping disorder in a sleep lab? _________________ Math and Art: http://mathematicsaroundus.blogspot.com/ |

You mean he's not already in therapy?

What's a Merlin? Am I stupid for not knowing? It sounds familiar, though. Once you say what it is I will say "OH YEAH!!!"

Yeah, they have run a few tests. I have done a written test on it too, kind of like a survey. They say that it's brought on by stress and irregular sleeping habits.
Also a good way to prevent them from happening is to turn the lights off, because when I have mine, they take place in the light and only when I'm napping. They also said it can be form of narcolepsy (Ithnk that's the term) and I define it as- If most people's brain has a light switch to turn it from sleep to awake, then I have a dimmer switch. It takes me on average two hours to fall asleep and about three to fully wake up and be concious. _________________

Whyever should I be in therapy? All of the roiling voices in my head tell me I'm quite sane--it's the rest of you who are bananas.

There are indeed labs, like Daniella said. They hook all of those electrodes to your head to monitor your Delta waves while you sleep. What they do after that, I can't tell you. I've never had a night terror, and I've maybe had two or three nightmares my entire adult life.
Are you curious to find one, anneke? I happen to drive by one every day on my way to work. I'll have them call you. _________________
