Yes, I like the fact that new facts keep coming out every year.

There are some really interesting investigation going on right now. I'm hopeful that a lot more information will come from Saqqara and Dashur. But that's just because I like the New Kingdom period Smile

I also like the Ptolemean Period with another mystery like the suicide of Cleopatra VII.

I didn't know there was much mystery surrounding her (Cleopatra's) suicide.
I thought she had either an asp smuggled in and used it to poison herself, or she may have used regular poison.

Or are there aspects of this piece of history I'm not aware of?

The thing I mean is not the suicide itself, but the reason why! Simple because her dream didn't come true of a great Roman-Egyptian empire? Or because they made her do it?

I guess I had just blindly accepted that she killed herself to avoid being paraded about in a victory parade in Rome (as her sister Arsinoe had been).

But I guess I should have wondered if that was enough reason to snuff yourself out.

I have always found it strange that she seemingly made no arrangements for her children. I think in the end her daughter Clceopatra Selene ended on her feet, and married some King.
Was Caesarion, son of Cleo and Julius Caesar, executed?
What happened to Alexander Helios, the son of Cleo and Mark Anthony?
He was Cleopatra Selene's twin brother, but I have never been able to figure out what happened to him.

Quite a detour from Akhenaten to Cleopatra Laughing

Agreed, but she's such an interesting character. Perhaps I can find something more about Caesarion, I'll let you know when I've looked. But I guess it'll be something for Easter Monday. Wink

I've got some information on CAESARION.
Casareon - or Ptolemy XV - was born the 23th of June in 47 BC. He was the son of Cleopatra VII and Julius Caesar. The child appears early in geographic Egyptian sources as pharaoh, and son of Caesar, whereas in Rome itself Caesar seems never to have mentioned the child. Caesarion played an important part in the political struggles after the death of Caesar because Cleopatra claimed that he was the only legal heir of Caesar. Caesareon was killed after the suicide of his mother following her defeat by Octavian (future Augustus) in 30 BC.

In "Wikipedia - The Free Encyclopedia" you'll find the following concerning the demise of the youngster:

"Octavianus feared that too many caesars, as he put it, would threaten his claim to being the sole successor of his adoptive father and reached the decision to execute this adoptive brother of his. Then he assumed control of Egypt."
