I like Horus because it was kinda cool the way he avenged his father's murder by doing battle with Seth. (Although I actually like them all because without them we wouldn't be doing any of this, would we?)

Hi Hatshepsu,

Although I voted for Amun, it could just as easily have been Hathor.

I like Amun because his main cult centre is at Karnak Temple, which is my favourite ancient site in Egypt. Also he is known as the 'King of the Gods' and the 'Hidden One' which makes him more mysterious and all powerful.

However as far as goddesses go, I particularly like Hathor because of she is closely associated with music, joy and sexuality. Go Girl!

(Can I vote twice?)

I'll tell you what I know, then maybe other members can add more?

Yes, Hathor and Isis are often associated. Isis took on particular importance during the reign of the Ptolemys (Dynasty XXX) when several temples were built in her honor including the temples at Denderah and Philea. Hathor's main cult centres were also at Denderah and Memphis. Isis has many depictions but one in particular shows her as a woman wearing cow's horns and sun disc, which was 'borrowed' from Hathor.

In the end it was Isis who went 'international' as the worship of her even spread as far as Britian.

i love your avatar!

Thanks, it's me in a former life Laughing Yours is pretty cute too.

lol thanks! i think thats why it gets mixed up, that whole cow thing. Hathor had that cow thingy, isis as you said "borrowed it". Nut is usually shown on all fours over top of geb with shu holding her up, i cant remember the occasion but sometimes everything is the same, but shes a cow instead.

lol i am about to change my avatar, though i love the lotus. Smile

I wonder why Aten is not in the list... the sun-god represents a whole ne way of seeing the world and the people in it. Achenaton and Nefertiti have left a lot of history, ideas and art all circling around Aten. Even Tutankhamon (their son) was originally named Tutankhaton, after their new supreme god.

I don't know ... I find the whole idea interesting... may be because I can't quite explain for myself this massive change in the Egyptian religion. Afterall it's quite impossible to make a whole civilization that has believed in certain gods for such a long time to believe in a single sun god. The god himself is not interesting at all... it's just a sun disk after all.

My favorite has always been Isis. Shes the protector, helper, lover, warrior. I have always felt a connection. Baset and Hathor, Ra and Horus are close too.
