I must admit that I didn't have much interest in Pre-Dynastic Egypt until I sat in on David Rohl's lecture at Reading University (in April as part of the Legends Conference series - next one in September I believe, if anyone gets the chance then do go!).
Now I'm interested!!! The links between Egypt and Sumartra are fascinating. Rohl's lecture also enlightened me on the theories of the unification of egypt - that the event was a localised conflict between Nubt (Seth) and Nekhen (Horus).

I would agree that the battle for Unification is most interesting and one of the seminal events in E. history. However, I do believe the event was far more than a localized fight between local gods. There were many cultural differences between Upper and Lower E. and I believe that the Kings of the South did not believe E. would progress without Unification.
