Well I've been called freak, obsessed ***, creep (apparently if you shout random insults at people in Egyptian it creepy???) and "Egyptian Dude", which I actually like! Laughing

lmao!! I've shouted insults in Egyptian and that reeeally didn't go down to well. People thought I was super weird. I don't think I'll be doing that again. I wrote a guys name in hieroglyphs once and he said I was 'really smart' I was like thanks! Someone who doesn't make fun of me for once Laughing

Oh & also, has anyone seen the 'Derek Acorah: Paranormal Egypt' program? Mad if someone hasn't then here's the link http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=q7E-2T649n8, but anyway, one guy in my art class actually BELIEVES that this Derek guy gets possessed by Pharaohs. I got in a big debate with him (the idiot doesn't even know a thing about Egypt apart from what Derek Acorah says) and it ended in me swearing at him and telling him to get some brain cells. He gets IN Khufu's sarcophagus and starts rolling around being 'possessed'! I think this program is SO disrespectful and I hate it.

Rant over Laughing

With me it got to the point of every other word to this guy I hated in my GCSE archaeology class was an egyptian insult! I kinda stopped though when it cost me a potential girlfriend! That and this guy tried to hit me...

All I said was izi nek djesek (go f*ck youself!)

Yep! and I laugh myself stupid everytime I watch it. To me its only proved that he is fake, as if he was in contact with Ramses he would have pronounced his name correctly, rather than saying it with 'e's between the consonants he should have pronounced it the proper way, which I think was "ri'u-misi-su" or something like that.

And when he got into Khufu's coffin I got so angry at him I had to leave the room. I hope he gets cursed...

I'm not sure if I can translate them without the post being blocked because of them being swear words...

But I'll try anyway

hes = sh*t
kheruwi = b*ll*cks
nek = f*ck
kenes = c*nt
henen = penis (thus henen-tep = dickhead! Laughing )

Either purely by chance or from A Concise Dictionary of Middle Egyptian by Faulkner.

I have to say that Egyptian is the best language on earth for insulting people in! I sounds so cool and evil at the same time! Laughing

Just a warning, ellie-asthenia and Silaku Nasuwt. This thread was started to discuss the study of Egyptology and the different disciplines involved--it was never intended for locker-room behavior.

We study ancient Egyptian to learn about that great civilization and how they thought and saw the world. Take it from someone who's been working on the study of hieroglyphs for the past decade: all you're doing is applying modern slang to an ancient language, and it's clumsy at best (the term nk, for instance, has a variety of sexual connotations, and not all of them are "naughty").

Please either take your chat to a PM or stop it altogether, or I will lock this thread. Wink
