I was wondering...how long is it after the death of a pharoah before his successor is formally crowned and declared pharoah? Right away, or is it after the opening of the mouth ceremony. I'd appreciate any help at all! Thanx! Surprised Laughing Wink Cool Smile Razz Smile Very Happy

Amarna:

To my knowledge the successor was present at the death of the pharaoh if it was possible, but either way at the time of his death the chosen successor was by write king of KMT

Apparently after the 70 days of mourning (during the mummificatiuon process), then then Pharaohs sucessor is officially proclaimed. When the previous Pharoahs body was finally laid to rest the Coronation ceremonies would begin.

Once the pharaoh croaks the succesor becomes pharaoh because if he became pharaoh after all the moarning and mummification and stuff Egypt wouldent have a head of government for that period of time. Look at it this way Egypt was a dictatorship society (what pharaoh says goes) If the USSR waited until there heads funeral and all that stuff anyone can run in and snatch the power, thats why when Lenin died almost imedialtley Stalin was apointed government head (Trotsky should have been apointed but thats another discusion) Thats just my opinion

feel free to debate this

cya all later Very Happy

lol yeah i think Egypt would have fallen to ruins if it waited.. even if everyone waited till after the mourning period other country's might find this an EXTREME weak spot..

O well i knew that. =0) LoL That's the only logical way to go. =0) Wut i meant was when would the coronation ceremony acutally take place. Of course the successor would automatically become pharaoh, but as someone else mentioned, i was thinking they'd want to wait to hold the formal ceremony after the funeral of the deceased pharaoh out of pure respect. I dunno...well anyways thanx 4 ur help! =0) Very Happy Smile Surprised Laughing Cool Razz Wink

Is there any evidence of a coronation ceremony that is concrete? If there is someone tell me. As far as I know there were no depictions whatsoever, it was secret. I think that it's linked to freemasonry, someone answer.

The successor is usually choosen in advance (unless you are a usurper.)
The successor is one one who does the opening of the mouth ritual at the funeral.
