Hey, I'll cover you, so long as you rob enough for me to get that Ramses II cartouche, too! _________________

LOL You guys are nuts
How long do you think it will take before Hawass demands you hand over the ring and cartouche to him? _________________ Math and Art: http://mathematicsaroundus.blogspot.com/ |

Conorp, I know a hide-out in Flanders Forests.
Bring the ring, forget the owner. _________________ "Leave him in error who loves his error."

Fear not, Daughter_Of_SETI will take the heat and serve your time for you.
The ring's probably the best but I also fancy that shabti. _________________

You know, as I was typing that last post, I was thinking, I hope she doesn't take this the wrong way. I was merely expressing the fact that you're so generous of spirit that you'd be only too happy to go to prison in Segereh's place so he could enjoy his ill-gotten gains.
Don't worry, once you land in your little jail cell, we'll make sure it's outfitted with all the latest books on Egypt. The prison library is chalked full of books just like this one. _________________

Cheers for volunteering someone else!
To be serious though...
I can't help but to get frustrated about private possession of Egyptian Antiquities.
I'm not H.R.H. Hawass, but it bugs me nonetheless.
Just my opinion? _________________ "Leave him in error who loves his error."

Oh, don't worry, if ever there's something horrible that wants doing, Kmt_sesh will always volunteer someone else to do it...usually me!

Yeah, sometimes it can be quite annoying when artefacts are kept in private collections. For one thing, many small private collectors don't have their artefacts published, so it's hard to imagine how many really important things are sitting in someone's glass cabinet relatively ignored. On the other hand, many relics that were made in abundance in ancient times, like ushabtis, the big museums would never want to display every last one because they would take up so much space. I guess it's a case of having to find a happy medium. _________________

First off if i did buy something i would put all the info i have on my .pdf page on my website.
Also, the only reason i would be buying something is because there isnt many egyptian objects in Melbourne. I believe there is about 40 objects including all the posts and scarubs (spelling)

Hi, Conorp! It's possible that any objects that are sold to private collectors in this time have already had some records made on them before they are sold off, so it's not so bad people buying them. I think it's worse when we think of the amount of artefacts that were sold, taken, and bought in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries before they'd been properly documented.
My earlier comment wasn't meant as a slight towards you for thinking of purchasing any of those pieces, as if I had the opportunity - and most importantly, the money - to buy and original pieces on ancient Egypt, I definitely would. _________________
