Dating of the sphinx geologically is the wrong approach. While it is true that the out-crop of rock may have been present in the geological past, the carving of the sphinx (whomever it is decided who did it) is a product of a much later era, that of the Dynastic rulers.
The debate as to the weathering effect found in various locations of the sphinx' body is still raging. Some insist it was water erosion; others (my own personal opinion, BYW) that it was sand; and still others, a combination of water from the Nile and sand. Take your pick!

While the debate about dating Sphinx seems to be going on endlessly (in the fringe though) that actually feeds on our lack of knowledge and geology. First there is no disagreement that rock outcrop in Giza, which sphinx is made of, is actually thousands of years old (as old as the Giza plateau itself). But that does not mean that Sphinx monument itself is as much old. True, there are some lines of vertical erosion on the body of Sphinx (middle part), which is attributed to water but the face of Sphinx only shows horizontal lines of erosion, caused by the desert wind. That should be a proof enough that sphinx is from 2nd millennium BC, time which it is usually though of as originated from.
