I am currently reading Flinders Petrie: A Life in Archaeology, by Margaret S. Drower. Drower was a student of Petrie's in the 1930s.

I do not customarily read biographies, but some time ago Daughter_Of_SETI told me about this book and I was interested. I ordered it and am only now getting around to reading it.

I have to say, this is a thoroughly intriguing and entertaining book. I highly recommend it. I've learned things about Petrie I never knew before, such as he was the first person to perform a thorough and comprehensive survey of Stonehenge. You see in the book how his formative years did indeed prepare him for a life in archaeology.

I'm only about a third of the way through the book right now but I'm finding it hard to put down. Give it a read! Smile

You mean you're still carrying it around? I'm sure you finished it a long time ago, but it must be inconvenient to be toting something you're done reading. Laughing

I still have a lot to read in the book. I'm in the chapter where Petrie first starts exploring other parts of Egypt in detail, after he had quit his affiliation with the Fund. LOL Even Petrie didn't like Wallis Budge. Did Budge have any friends?
