Yeah sure, you even don't know my name anymore after just a day of absence; I think you should be "renamed": "Ran over Hotep" |
It was a very nice day, in which I learned the history of Ostend (Oostende), a fisherman’s city at our Belgium coast, visited three museums and the Mercator (An ancient sailboat, trainee ship from 1931) My first trip in months as you know, and quite tired, but content. _________________

and you forgot to mention that this was done all on foot. And a day on which - thank the gods - the quoting mechanism remembers my name correctly ( I am neither a toddler, nor a piece of garbage, nor a drink...)
BTW: It would have been fun if Oostende suddenly was at the Dutch coast, your hike would have been considerably longer (You might have met Seth then, he was quite active here) _________________

Toth, I don’t find it back, but I believe you found out the origins of the name “Father of Fear”, care to share it with us.
My guess as of Osiris II (if I’m correct) it was a name given to the sphinx in the 1900 _________________

Just a bit further back: 1120 years or so. I will give you a link to a long file Ever seen a real Egyptologist who has something valuable to tell doing that in 15 pages? NO? Neither did I. The file you are looking for is Selim Hassan's Sphinx the information you're looking for is in the back of the file, but the PDF is well to search from start to end!

On page 81, second paragraph, it says: Prof. Selim Hassan wrote: | ABDEL-LATIF EL-BOGHDADY (*)
Abdel-Latif El-Boghdady states : " N e a r to one
of the Pyramids is a colossal head emerging from the
ground. It is called Abul-Hol. It is said that its
body is buried in the ground, and judging by the
dimensions of the head, the body should have been
70 cubits in length.
|
There is another short line telling us that the body was painted red, these observations were made around 640 AD _________________

I’ve read somewhere that even in modern times traces of paint were found, probably all gone by now. Apparently most statues, also in later periods, were painted. So I wouldn’t be surprised the sphinx was painted also. _________________

Agree, and there would have probably more of it left in 640 AD _________________

I’ve read trough the pdf of the sphinx, most interesting. I’ve noticed also this was published in 1949, thus from that time this name “father of fear” could have become more widespread. _________________

Hi Ranoferhotep,
You also noticed the change from "Abul Hol" back in those days (640 AD) to "Abu el-Hol" in modern times?

Isn’t “el” in Arabic an article? The official name of Caïro is also El Cahirah _________________
