Indeed nice contributions.

Stuart, canít we give a queen also? All of us have chosen a male statue

Absolutely. Women were extremely important in Ancient Egypt and i welcome them with open arms. Animals, gods and goddesses are good too. As long as they are statues they are welcomed.

Great, I hope we get some nice contributions. Here is my favorite. Meritamun. Daughter and consort of Ramses II. For its enormous size a statue with lot of grace.

Ranoferhotep - thank you for sharing that. If i could just ask you to move to the front of the class, pick up the chalk and write 100 times (on the black-board:

Thatís why I asked if we could give a statue of a women also. You could even make other categories, double statues and triple statues. With the same rule from each category only one picture by the same member. I think that is quite challenging.

You have a plan. I like it. Wouldn't that mean editing my original post and changing the rules though?

Or of an animal, like this one (even though it is Ptolemaic):

Thanks; glad you like the idea. I have some statues in the different categories in mind, I have a photographic memory, but I want to give our other members also a chance. We canít change our posts only admin and moderators can.

How lovely she is! The little kitty! And Meritamun (or Meritamon, as I like to spell) is beautiful and graceful.

Stuart,

I found a gazillion fake statues of Bastet (commercial replicas), but I wanted a real statue from that time; and this is as close as I got. But Bast(et), or one of her children, is absolutely one of my favorites and besides that this old statue looks very much like my own Smile

@Hathorhotep: this "kitty" is a fully grown, adult, cat.

One doesnít discuss ones artistically taste. Some like classical, some modern, some like abstract etcÖ

The cat has lifelike facial features, quite expressive; what does attract my attention are the rounded shaped ears of the cat.

Which means according to you, Ranoferhotep? I did a quick Google image check on photo's of a well known Egyptian Mau (Quetesh) and she too has rounded ears, so it may mean that had an adult Mau as their model...

To continue this tread about statues, in the category ďGodsĒ I prefer this one as most exquisite example, not only of statuary but also as an example of the craftsmanship of the ancient goldsmiths.

Not mentioned in the text of the Met (see link), but this statue once was part of Lord Carnavons private collection at Highclare Castle.

PS Stuart, Since you started this tread, I find it a bit out of place to start about every category a tread of my own, so I continue posting here.
