Small update for anyone considering the Level 3 course via Oxford College online.

I have done my exam on Sunday and I am quite disappointed. It consisted of 50 multiple choice questions. It's possible to pass with only 25 out of 50, which I think is far too low.
Also, most of the questions didn't seem to have anything to do with Egyptology (what does AD stand for? what is anthropology? questions about a Greek who I haven't been able to find in the study material).
I spent two days with my housemate reviewing the material, obviously focussing on pharaohs, kingdoms/intermediate periods, buildings, military campaigns, flora and fauna in Egypt, and so on. And I didn't really need all the knowledge to do the exam.

It could be me - maybe I have a completely warped idea of Egyptology. If so, please let me know.

I've passed, but I have no sense of achievement. Sad

Combine that with the typos and obvious mistakes (two different start years for one dynasty?) and I'd say don't bother with this course if you're serious about Egyptology.
I know I was positive before and I still believe the material is fascinating. But...I want to start the online Bachelors via Manchester University in September and I am now in doubt if the course I have just finished has given me a starting point or not.

So, nice if it's just a hobby that you don't really want to take anywhere, otherwise, don't bother with it.

Oh dear Nicky, I am sorry to hear that, but well done, you passed and it does really sound that you have learned a lot for all your reading and research! Angel But thank you for the feedback, I have looked at that course and wondered so I am very interested to hear. Keep going, you have done so well!

Thanks, I am glad I passed. It would have cost me 150 to resit the exam and I would not have bothered.
Very much looking forward to the online course at Manchester University, though. Next month it's time to apply, so hopefully I'll be accepted.

You're right, though. I did learn a lot in the past two years. My housemate loves going to museums with me and test me. Laughing
Another friend is more into art museums and even she likes going to the British Museum with me because of the stories I can tell her. It's all great fun!

That's the spirit! Good for you. Do let us know how you get on with the Manchester course please.
