Just wondering, Sothis. Were there any other letters and numbers after the E1b1a ?

Unfortunately not. i know additional letters could be very telling, but there is no explanation as to weather they tried to establish the sub-clade as well or not.
But why don't you have a look at it yourself, you might spot something I missed. it's in the link provided by Lutz on the 18 December in the paragraph beginning " Genetic kniship analysis".

As they provide the Y-DNA data in the table you or someone else might be able to doublecheck if they got the haplogroup right. Well, I guess they did, but anyway.

Interesting that they got so much neat data out of the mummies this time.
Especially the amount of Y-DNA is far greater than the mere 2 loci they got from the 18th dynasty mummies.
Still, I can't help feeling that the DNA part is presented all too briefly.
And of course once again there is no raw data, sigh......

My take is, also, that in the absence of a SNP test (why none?) the group could still be E1b1b (predictable because it is a major one in Egypt) and, as it says on that blog, there are some E1b1b haplotypes that also have DYS 390 = 21. Probably, if one looks through other blogs by knowledgeable persons, one will find the same argument.

But--who knows? The 20th Dynasty does not necessarily have anything to do with the 19th and there can have been some African founder whose appearance got bred out by mixing with Northern Egyptian or even Asiatic types. The ultimate example of this seems to be Ramesses IV, whose hawkish profile rivals that of Ramesses II.

But, good heavens, take a look at the opinion of "Gioiello" here:

Unfortunately, I could not get on the fast a better photo of the scene. But I think it is clear that the face of the king is painted red and not the wig (could be black or maybe blue?)

That's not the image I had in mind, then, but I know it's in relief and that I saw it in color in KMT magazine. Which issue I do not know. I don't think I would mistake the color of the face for the wig, though. Embarassed

Why, do you think he is right in calling some of the values "ridiculous"?
i can't judge it, that is ways too high for me.

And what is a SNP test?

I don't know, Sothis, but I usually tune in to the blogs when there's a question in my mind regarding the DNA data. These people live and breathe this stuff and, since the blogs have discussion capabilities, they cross check one another. SNPs I do know about. The site that puts it short and sweet is this one:

I have been reading the "anthro/bio" blogs a lot since last I checked in here and this seems to be the best, but rather unsettling, opinion:

"The entire cause of the association with E1b1a appears to be due to to DYS385a/b at 20/20. Without this marker, the likelihoods drop everywhere and no one haplogroup is predicted by Athey's Predictor. The evidence is insufficient to identify the haplogroup at all from the STRs."

But, say--I think you'll find this interesting, anyway.
