The number nine can be "read" a few ways, also... either as a literal nine, or a more generalized "many" or "all." (The Egyptians tended to think in terms of unity (1), duality (2), and multiple (3+, symbolized by 3... and 9 is three threes.) I would lean toward reading this along the lines of "All enemies of the king, particularly (... list ...)," myself. |

I think it would be beneficial to know if the 9 people depicted in the picture are representing actual races of people the Ancient Egyptians of the New Kingdom were facing as a threat. At that point in history I believe the Egyptians were aware of the people from Kush, Nubia, Crete, Greece, Libyan, Sudan, Syria, Punt, and Assyria. While at times some of these lands were controlled by the Egyptians there are times when the invading armies would take over for a time.
This list of foreign contact is by no means complete, I have not done a background check to see if there are corellations in ethnic protrayal of the individuals in the picture. It is however a list of most of the neighboring regions the Egyptians had contact with.
