I haven't heard anything about this movie. I hope it comes out soon. Hatshepsut was my favorite female pharaoh so I'm glad they're doing one about her and not yet another one about Cleopatra, which to me has become entirely passé.
Catherine Zeta-Jones is a good pick for Hatshepsut. She could make the Egyptian thing work. I hope they choose someone of substance for Senenmut--Colin Ferrell, Brad Pitt, and Orlando Bloom are actually all very good actors, but sometimes they're cast more for their pretty-boy looks than their acting ability. Maybe they should mix things up a bit and make it interesting: Samuel L. Jackson? Woody Allen? Jet Li? |

Don Cheadle (from Hotel Rwanda, Oceans Twelve) as High Priest Hapuseneb would be interesting. Or Morgan Freedman if they want to portray him as a slightly older man. I really like Mr Freedman as an actor.
Somehow Woody Allen really doesn't quite fit
Senmut as a black man would be interesting as well. Jesse Martin?
Along other lines I wouldn't mind Benjamin Pratt as Senmut. My favorite handsome, good looking 'babe' is Hugh Jackman though. (*keeps fingers crossed* ) _________________ Math and Art: http://mathematicsaroundus.blogspot.com/ |

Well, no one has suggested the obvious, so I guess I will.
For the role of Senenmut: Zahi Hawass. |

Jet Li as an Egyptian??? No way!
Omar Sharif is the closest we have to a true Egyptian actor.
On the lines of having a black actor, Morgan Freeman is a brilliant actor but maybe too old? How old was senmut? Laurence Fishburne would also be good.
This would be interesting for a movie because hardly anyone knows about this queen...provided everyone doesn't start mispronouncing her name as 'Hot Ketchup' _________________ High-Priestess of Isis, Hereditary Princess, Lady of Philae, Favourite of Osiris, the Lord of Abydos, Daughter of Horus, Chantress of Bastet, Superior of the Kitty Litter

I think that's almost type casting--a middle aged bureaucrat with a talent for self-promotion. On the other hand if you're going to go with the Hatshepsut and Senenmut were lovers angle the thought of ol' Zahi as a romantic lead is sort of depressing.
On the other hand of they didn't give him a major role, they might never get permission to do any on location shooting. Maybe they could probably convince him to take the role of Thutmose I who was after all the very model of a macho hero pharoah and leave the role of Senenmut to someone who'd actually look good in a kilt. |
