"Gods Of Egypt" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2404233/

Cringe worthy or LOL worthy? Only time will tell.

I can't watch the URL, is it a new TV series?

I can't help but to be critical when watching something like so ^ on ancient Egypt.

It's a movie staring Gerard Butler. "A common thief joins a mythical god on a quest through Egypt." It claims to have a big budget; $150,000,000. Be interesting to see what they do with it

I am both intrigued and worried. Jamie Lannister is Horus?

Intrigued and worried is a good way to put it. Hey, Goeffry Rush is to play Ra. Could be hilariously good, or bad.

A bit more information has emerged about "Gods Of Egypt", currently in production.

It seems to be a re-telling of the battles between Horus and Set, features most of the core gods of Egypt including Shu, Tefnut, Ra, Thoth and Hathor. However, two of the lead characters are humans, Zara (a slave girl cursed by Seth) and Bek, a thief who buddies up with Horus.

I'm pleased that this is going to be a film re-telling the myth, lots of potential action there - though I doubt that they will go as far as Norman Mailer's version in "Ancient Evenings" did! (Horus stealing Seth's seed by seducing the other god).

Ignore most of the above post, I found the actual plot summary:

"Magic, monsters, gods, and madness reign throughout the palaces and pyramids of the lush Nile River Valley in this sweeping action-adventure inspired by the classic mythology of Egypt. With the survival of mankind hanging in the balance, an unexpected hero undertakes a thrilling journey to save the world and rescue his true love. Set (Gerard Butler), the merciless god of darkness, has usurped Egypt's throne, plunging the once peaceful and prosperous empire into chaos and conflict. With only a handful of heroic rebels opposing Set's savage rule, Bek (Brenton Thwaites), a bold and defiant mortal, enlists the aid of the powerful god Horus (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) in an unlikely alliance against the evil overlord. As their breathtaking battle against Set and his henchmen takes them into the afterlife and across the heavens, both god and mortal must pass tests of courage and sacrifice if they hope to prevail in the spectacular final confrontation."

Sounds absolutely ghastly.
A cowboy film with pyramids.
It just goes to show that the average Hollywood producer has all the aesthetic sense of a brick.
Still might be worth watching for all the howlers that get incorporated.

Is it just me, or does the plot of that movie seem like it would work better as a novel I pick up from an airport shop? And it would work fine in some other fantasy world setting.

Because there is no edit button...

It might work better in some other fantasy setting.

At best it looks like a CS Suit; After Effects bit of fun - more animation than acting - at worst an embarrassment to all involved. I do wish there was room in the modern film industry for a serious non-biblical film set in the ancient world.

It might be amusing to see Geoffrey Rush as Ra. Maybe.

But in any case... There is hardly no better occupation for the aging god Atum-Ra, mocked because of lack of potency in front of the court of the gods on the island in the middle... Cool

Greetings, Lutz.
