i was sooo fascinated with the sphinx in the movie that i heard that it was nearly the same size as the real sphinx. has anyone seen the movie? it's actually very good for that period of movie making time. i'm impressed

I agree, it's great. And the Sphinx is even more fabulous. I wonder what they'd do with it for a remake?

I keep seeing it in parts but I fully intend on seeing the complete film soon. But what I saw really impressed me. Historically its extremely accurate and Elizabeth Taylor did an excellent job of portraying the Queen. And wasn't she beautiful?

If it's cheap you're looking for, there are some good "used and new" selections at Amazon.

I think that the movie was a very accurate and ive heard the original version was acutally 6 hours long but due to budget problems, they had to make the movie about 4 hours long...and i think there is a restoration of the original film being made or something..theyre trying to find the rest of the movie that never made it to the audience...

There's going to be a 'Cleo-The Musical' movie coming. I've seen mention of it being in the works. That could be a lot of fun!

This is the first time I've heard of this movie, but after I've had a look at it on the internet, the plot etc thanks to Wikipedia Smile it sounds really good. And according to some of the previous comments its a really good movie to watch, hopefully I'll find some way to watch it Very Happy

If they'll do a more historically accurate remake, Cleo never gets in Rome.

Cicero : Epistulae ad Atticum - DCCXLV (A XV, 15), TO ATTICUS (AT ROME) ASTURA, 13 JUNE :
Quote:
"... I can't stand the Queen: and the voucher for her promises, Hammonius, knows that I have good cause for saying so. What she promised, indeed, were all things of the learned sort and suitable to my character-such as I could avow even in a public meeting. ... The Queen's insolence, too, when she was living in Caesar's trans-Tiberine villa, I cannot recall without a pang. I won't have anything to do therefore with that lot. ..."

Greetings, Lutz.

Hate to correct here, but Caesar's villa was outside of the city, across the Tiber. According to Roman law, the city of Rome had a sacred wall called the "pomerium" with many kinds of restrictions and one of them was that no crowned head could pass through it. All the diplomatic discussions had to be done through agents or through representatives of the senate coming to her.

Arsinoë, her sister passed through it ... Wink Cool

Seriously, I think it is very unlikely that Cleopatra during her visit never entered the city. For example, as a statue of her in the Temple of the Venus Genetrix, the mythical ancestor of the Julians, on the Forum Iulium was erected. An also equally unprecedented action, which recognized the divinity of a foreign monarch as the incarnation of Isis (Roman Venus).

Greetings, Lutz.
