Shally I provide some canopic jars to place all these spare organs?
And did they really pierce the ears and noses of cats like the statues suggest? _________________ High-Priestess of Isis, Hereditary Princess, Lady of Philae, Favourite of Osiris, the Lord of Abydos, Daughter of Horus, Chantress of Bastet, Superior of the Kitty Litter

I don't know if they actually pierced the animals. The crocodiles at the Sobek temple of Kom Ombo were pampered to the extreme and were dressed in jewelry of precious metals, including "bracelets" for their paws.
Just like the photographs show, though, the statues of animal gods were certainly pierced (we have a Bastet statue in our exhibit similar to one of the cats depicted, and it has pierced ears). These temple statues were dressed and ornamented every day and were regarded as the gods/goddesses, not just statues. |
