|
|
I have a question regarding some of the statues I have seen. I have seen some statues of men, mostly, if I remember correctly, and they have something in their hand. It looks to me to be a peg. It also looks like they are carrying a wheelbarrow behind them, because of the way their hands grip the "peg". My question is what is this peg? I can't think of any tool in ancient Egypt that they were using. If you could help me out that would be great. Thanks. |

Please post some links to images, there are a few things the "peg" could be, especially if the statue is damaged. |

What is meant is the so-called "Schatten-Stab" (shadow rod) in the closed fists of stone sculptures. By far the largest number of discussions on the subject in form of articles or book-chapters is in German. On the fast I find in English only ...
Henry G. Fischer : An Elusive Shape within the Fisted Hands of Egyptian Statues. - In: Metropolitan Museum Journal 10. - 1975. - pp. 9 - 21.
Maybe there is more english-language literature mentioned in the footnotes of this article?
