I recently stumbled across the trailer for HIEROGLYPH, the proposed high-profile fantasy drama set in Ancient Egypt. It was meant to be Fox's answer to GAME OF THRONES but got axed before it was ever broadcast! Shame because it looks as if it could have been quite good...

Let's see - vampires, 80% sexual content, everyone looks like a model - how on earth did this show get cancelled? How about just a 'normal' historical show set in ancient Egypt?

Well, to be fair, it was billed as a "fantasy" drama rather than an historical one, but I still think it would've been better than nothing! You are right, though. We could do with a good, historical drama set in Ancient Egypt. I can't think of anything since TUT, the 2015 mini-series starring Ben Kingsley, Avan Jogia and Sibylla Deen, and even that aired to mixed reviews!

It's a shame because the 18th - 20th dynasties in particular include some cracking stories -

Rise of Hatchepsut - from princess to king
Tuthmosis IV and the dream stelae - and whatever went on with his brothers to have him on the throne
Amenhotep III - Akhenaten - Tut and the Hittite prince business
Ramesses II and his sons - end of the 19th Dynasty
Ramesses III and the harem plot

That's about 7 seasons of material right there! They don't even need to embellish much with fiction.

I agree! Plus you have the ladies, too - Nefertiti, Nefertari.
