This is a link to Jane Akshar's Luxor News:
http://networkedblogs.com/tenrd
There is a link to a Swiss news broadcast with a short report on the tomb.
The coffin is shown and they show how the lid is taken off the coffin.
The wrapped mummy is shown inside the coffin.
It is not further unwrapped - not in this broadcast at least.
My German is a bit rusty, but I think at the end there is a comment about them hoping for further finds from the lower level of the tomb? I had heard that the tomb is originally from the 18th dynasty and that this is a reuse/usurpation of the tomb? _________________ Math and Art: http://mathematicsaroundus.blogspot.com/ |

I would think that's the case: as best as I could determine, the coffin appears from a later period, and probably of a non-royal female (perhaps a chantress of Amun?). _________________ Katherine Griffis-Greenberg

Yes I know that thread is there
This was meant to be a short thread about the mummy in that tomb.
Not sure what they will do mummy.
I figure they will not unwrap it, but maybe do a CT scan?
It would be interesting to find out more about this woman.
How old she was, any children, illnesses etc _________________ Math and Art: http://mathematicsaroundus.blogspot.com/ |

I do not think it particularly useful to have two different threads for finally one topic. If only for reasons of clarity? Some of your questions are still answered by having a look for the links in the other thread...

Well everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
But I think your backseat moderating is rather against forum rules.
It's not up to you to decide these things.

I do not think that I do "backseat moderating". I merely pointed out that there is already a thread on the topic. I think it would be better for the sake of clarity not to split the information. My personal opinion which I utter, as you yours:

By the way, real "backseat moderating" is in my view what you have done here with your last post. And you attack me, in my view with no reason, personally and publicly. You impute intentions to me that I do not have at all, and of course reject.

Please calm down, folks. I really like both of you. You are really both very knowledgeable and very informative and I'd hate to see either of you go off angry or get pounced upon. I"m a bit surprised that it took a nasty turn like this. Now maybe you two can let off shooting at each other and start shooting at me, after all, I'm the guy in the middle, and I don't care.
I have to admit that I don't know what a "back-seat moderator" is. I've never heard that term before. Maybe I've just done it myself and never known it or intended it. I guess I need a definition, and that probably from Kevin, whose term it is and whose grace we all post by.

The name I have seen is Nehmes-Bastet or Ni-Hms-Bastet.
I'm not sure what it means exactly. _________________ Math and Art: http://mathematicsaroundus.blogspot.com/ |

I am curious about how they will deal with the mummy.
I think it is becoming more and more common to do a CT scan.
I was looking at some of the information about mummification and during the 21st and 22nd dynasty they apparently wrapped the internal organs and then placed the packages in the body cavity. That explains why there were no canopic jars. Those apparently "went out of style". In the late period they would have placed the packets between the legs.
I did not see a mummy mask. I wonder if there was a mask, but it is now under the mummy wrappings? _________________ Math and Art: http://mathematicsaroundus.blogspot.com/ |

I would find it very interesting to determine what king this Nehmes-Bastet was living under. I did some research on dynasty 22 this morning, and it seems that the kings of this period were fond of placing family members in prominent positions. Sheshonq I, for instance, placed his son Iuput as High Priest of Amun...likewise, Osorkon I did the same with his son Sheshonq II.
Seeing that Nehmes-Bastet is the daughter of a High Priest of Amun, could we perhaps be dealing with a pharaoh's granddaughter? This might explain her presence in the valley of the kings. |

In this publication the authors make the point that so little respect paid to the earlier occupant of KV64 seems strange. I agree, as not just anybody merited a tomb in the VOK. As for subsequent burials in usurped tombs, when much-later Princess Nauny was placed in the tomb of Queen Meryetamun, wife of Amenhotep I, the queen was despoiled but her burial tidied. Why no "wHm qrs" [burial renewal] for the original occupant of KV64? BTW, the "wHm qrs" of Meryetamun was done at the order of Prince Masaharta, son of Pinudjem I.
