Just noticed this news item posted by Hawass:
"A necropolis consisting of 53 rock-cut tombs dating to the Middle (ca. 2061-1786 BC) and New (ca. 1569-1081 BC) Kingdoms and the 22nd Dynasty (ca. 931-725 BC) has been discovered by an Egyptian archaeological mission sponsored by the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA). The necropolis lies in the southeastern part of the pyramid field of Illahun in Egypt’s Faiyum region."

There's picture on his website (in the newsfeed section) showing a beautiful coffin. It's said to be cartonnage. It is painted mainly in white, with a band of inscription down the center and the 4 sons of horus flanking the inscription. The head has a painted face, blue wig, what looks like a diadem, and there is a painted collar over the upper chest.

That coffin just captured my attention Smile It's beautifully painted and the colors look amazingly crisp.

Dynasty 22? That's the same as Meresamun and our friend what's-her-name from the Field Museum! Are there any bulls painted on the foot of the coffins?

Not on the foot of the mummy - just the coffin. That'll be good enough.

There are some nice photographs at Hawass' photoblog:

The next 2 photos are also of the coffins found.

Sorry Bob: no view of the foot end ....
